Look Out for These 3 Signs That Your Truck Needs A Wheel Alignment

Do you drive your truck down bad and poorly maintained roads with potholes? Or perhaps you hit a kerb without noticing. Such driving conditions can knock your truck's wheels out of alignment. Proper wheel alignment ensures you get optimum traction from your tyres. It also prevents your truck's tyres from wearing unevenly. Overall, you need your truck to have the proper wheel alignment for maximum efficiency and better manoeuvrability. Knowing when your truck's wheels need an alignment will save you from costly repairs later on. Therefore, here are some of the signs to watch out for.

Uneven Tyre Wear

This is one of the most obvious signs that your truck needs a wheel alignment. It's imperative to conduct routine inspections of your tyres because that's the easiest way to spot uneven tyre wear patterns. If your truck is aligned properly, the wear pattern on the front tyres should appear the same. This applies to the back tyres too. However, if you notice that one of the tyres is wearing more or has a different wear pattern than the one on the opposite side of the truck, chances are you have a wheel alignment problem. Watch out for excessive wear on either the inside or the outside edges of the tyres. Remember that uneven tyre wear can also be a result of suspension problems or improper tyre inflation. Whatever the problem is, have a mechanic inspect the truck.

Pulling

If your truck appears to pull to one side of the road, especially when you're driving down a straight and level road, the alignment could be the culprit. If you're not sure that the truck is pulling to one side, you can let your hands off the steering wheel for a few seconds and observe how it behaves. If you experience pulling within those few seconds, you could be having an alignment problem. Also, if you are struggling to keep the truck straight on the road, consider having the wheels checked.

Vibrations in The Steering Wheel

Vibrations in the steering wheel can be a result of a range of issues including brake problems, suspension issues and poor wheel alignment. Wheel alignment is essential for traction from the tyres. If the wheel is out of alignment, the tyres won't get enough traction, which can cause vibrations especially when braking. The vibrations can also be a result of the tyres pulling in opposite directions.
